  • Live Healthy Appalachia's AmeriCorps VISTA member will engage in indirect service to the community through capacity building for several LHA programs. VISTA service is a 12-month service commitment, and the service year begins in June 2019.

    The VISTA member duties at Live Healthy Appalachia (LHA) will support the organization’s mission to improve the health and well-being of the Appalachian region through education, outreach, and advocacy, emphasizing nutrition and other lifestyle choices. Successful candidates will have an interest in healthy eating and active living. The LHA VISTA member will engage in the following: researching and writing grants to support current programs and building organizational capacity; assisting in the creation of a learning management system that improves access to programs and supports sustainability, developing health literacy materials to be distributed to healthcare and wellness points of contact; fine-tuning existing volunteer recruitment strategy and developing a retention plan; researching donor relation strategies and assisting in the planning and execution of donor recognition events; and engaging followership through strategic social media marketing and outreach.

    AmeriCorps/COMCorps Service Members engage in direct service to the community through the coordination of Live Healthy Appalachia’s programs. LHA hosts two AmeriCorps/ComCorps members- a Live Healthy Kids Coordinator and a Peer Wellness Coordinator. COMCorps is a 10.5 month service commitment, and the service year begins in August 2019.

  • AmeriCorps COMCorps Peer Wellness Coordinator

    The goal of Live Healthy Appalachia’s healthy eating and active living programs is to provide a supportive framework for individuals living in Appalachia who want to improve their health. Live Healthy Appalachia’s Peer Wellness Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating healthy cooking classes, food demos, and workshops including preparing recipes, ingredients and teaching materials, shopping for food and maintaining consistent communication with partner agencies, volunteers and program participants. They will provide direct support to individuals and families participating in LHA’s healthy eating and active living programs in a compassionate and straightforward manner. This includes CHIP, Cooking Coaches, My First 5K, and other nutrition and physical activity programs in the community. The Peer Wellness Coordinator will also lead and train volunteers and interns, utilize program evaluation tools, and serve as a food educator to approximately 60-second grade students in Athens County through the Live Healthy Kids program.

  • AmeriCorps/COMCorps Service Members engage in direct service to the community through the coordination of Live Healthy Appalachia’s programs. LHA hosts two AmeriCorps/ComCorps members- a Live Healthy Kids Coordinator and an Adult Education Coordinator. COMCorps is a 10.5 month service commitment, and the service year begins in August 2019.

    The Live Healthy Kids Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating the second-grade Live Healthy Kids program including preparing and distributing food and teaching materials, communicating with Food Educators, and drafting and sending weekly LHK emails. They will lead cooking demos and workshops, attend community events, and teach additional LHK classes beyond the school-based program. The LHK Coordinator is also tasked with planning LHK Night at the end of the school year, publishing an annual Live Healthy Kids newsletter and additional marketing, promotion and data collection efforts associated with the LHK program.
